The Church of the Good Shepherd
Outreach Ministries
Outreach Committee
Contact: Suzanne Whitney
This group coordinates various outreach ministries & administers funding decisions to
the agencies we support.

Assistance Center for Towson Churches (ACTC)
Contact: Ruth Wheeler
The Assistance Center of Towson Churches is a central collection and distribution point
providing a variety of emergency help to people of the Towson area who are in need.
When it was founded in 1985, it involved 6 churches (Good Shepherd joined in 1988).
Today, over 40 Towson area churches of all denominations have found this cooperative
ministry an efficient and effective way to respond to some of the social and economic
needs of our neighborhood. Good Shepherd is committed to helping to fund this ministry
by filling Thanksgiving Day baskets and stocking the Emergency Food Pantry in the
month of May. Emergency services provided include: Food; Fuel; Prescription and
Medical Supplies; Referrals; Shelter; and Transportation.

Sarah's Hope
Contact: Suzanne Whitney
Members of the Church have provided meals during the month of February for those who
use the cold weather shelter at the Eastern Family Resource Center. However, our
involvement has changed, and we are now looking for alternative ways of helping the
homeless at this Baltimore County shelter.

Sandtown Habitat for Humanity
Contact: Butch Darrell
This well-known international organization rehabilitates and builds houses for people
who have inadequate shelter. Habitat has two chapters in Baltimore: Sandtown and
Chesapeake. Parish members work to repair and renovate vacant houses in the
Sandtown area of Baltimore for families in need.

Loaves & Fishes
Contact: Mickey Wheeler
This ministry provides food for Baltimore's homeless. The ministry began around 1990
and was known as Jacob's Well in it's first 3 years. Volunteers gather one Sunday a
month from November to April to prepare and deliver "box lunches" for distribution from a
van to folks on the streets of downtown Baltimore. This is a great opportunity for the
entire family, as children can be a great help in preparing the food while older members
are needed for the distribution from the van.

New Song Academy
Contact: Suzanne Whitney
The Church is responsible for providing books for children at the Academy every
Christmas.

Our Daily Bread
Contact: Brook Yearley
Volunteers gather and prepare a meal on the third Tuesday of each month in the kitchen
of Good Shepherd to feed 250 needy people at Our Daily Bread, a soup kitchen in
downtown Baltimore. The food is delivered on Wednesday mornings, and many
volunteers stay to serve the food.

Paul's Place Outreach
Contact: Jean Moore
Volunteers meet at the church and go to Paul's Place in Washington Village/Pigtown to
help serve the midday meal on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Project Linus
Contact: Jane Lynn
Project Linus has over 300 Chapters that provide security through blankets to seriously
ill or traumatized children. Project Linus is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization.
Homemade blankets of all sizes and styles are distributed to kids in need of a "hug".
They may be quilts, afghans, fleece or receiving blankets in child friendly colors. The
local chapter meets on the first Monday of the month, 10AM at Ashland Presbyterian
Church to sew on labels and attach tags on hundreds of blankets. The coordinators
distribute the blankets to: Johns Hopkins Children's House, Pediatric Units & Bayview,
The Ronald McDonald House, Sinai Hospital, Mt Washington Pediatric Center,
Baltimore Crisis Center, etc.
Whether it involves collecting canned goods or cooking meals for a local shelter, or
renovating a row house in Sandtown, Good Shepherd is committed to ministry beyond
our walls, especially to our neighbors in need. We actively support with our time and
talents numerous outreach organizations, and we teach and encourage "hands-on"
outreach to even our youngest members.
