Parish Community |
Altar Guild Contact: Julie Minch, Tina Darrell This ministry prepares the Church and Parish Hall for the Sunday services, as well as weddings and funerals. Volunteers set up the proper linens and hangings in accordance with the Church calendar, prepare the vessels for the Eucharist and arrange the altar flowers. Buildings & Grounds Contact: Beau Whitney Volunteers do "home improvements" and maintenance on and around the church property, including the Boyce Avenue rectory. Choir Contact: Kevin King The Choir leads music at the 10:00 AM Sunday service in the Church and for various holiday services. Rehearsals are weekly during the school year at 7:30 PM on Thursday evenings. Good Shepherd To-Go Contact: Mickey Wheeler This is a "subdivision" of the Pastoral Care Committee. The committee provides meals for home-bound parishioners who have been discharged from a hospital or nursing facility, or recently had surgery or gave birth. For some, it is a one-time need. For others, the need is ongoing. Meals are prepared by committee members and then personally delivered. Pastoral Care Contact: Mickey Wheeler The members of this ministry deliver flowers, meals, or notes of condolence and congratulations to members of our congregation. Hospitality Contact: Mabeth Hudson This committee welcomes new members to Good Shepherd. Committee members deliver loaves of bread and make telephone calls to newcomers. The committee also sponsors fellowship events throughout the year. Lay Readers/Chalicists Contact: Rebekah Hatch This group trains and schedules Lay Readers and Chalicists for the services on Sunday morning. Lay Readers, members of the parish of all ages, read the Lessons and Prayers of the People. Chalicists assist the clergy in administering Communion. Stewardship Contact: Beau Whitney This committee discusses and plans for the yearly pledge program, as well as stewardship education, and long-range plans for Good Shepherd. The committee also sponsors a parish-wide social event each fall. Ushers Contact: Dick Watts Ushers seat people on Sunday mornings, hand out bulletins, collect the offertory, assist people to and from the Communion rail, and tidy up after the services. They also serve at funerals and Christmas Eve services. |
How we care for one another, especially in times of particular need, reflects how God's love shines through us as a Christian family. When not helping individuals through sacramental life transitions (birth, baptism, confirmation, marriage, divorce, retirement and death), clergy focus their pastoral energy on responding to specific situations that command attention, such as illness and crises. Complementing the clergy's sacramental ministry are lay people dedicated to reaching out as Sunday morning greeters, or delivering altar flowers, meals, or notes of condolence and encouragement to those with particular needs at the time. Part of parish life is having fun together, so we set aside time to visit and have fellowship with one another. We share meals together. We gather in homes. We share coffee and conversation with one another after Sunday morning worship. We have fun together at picnics and retreats. |
